Healthy Life Strong Moms

At Reach Out, part of our mission has always been to help at-risk families, and this past winter we did exactly that through a new special group class called Healthy Life Strong Moms, led by Health & Wellness Coach, Julie Marshall.

For eight weeks, five of the moms we have served through our parenting program, Earn While You Learn, gathered here at the center. Every Thursday evening, these moms showed up. Through each class, they focused on setting goals, being active, eating healthy on any budget, making time for what matters most, and exploring mental wellness.

They connected with one another, built new friendships, and even created vision boards, using materials donated by a Thrivent Action Team, to help keep their goals top of mind. One mom is already using one of her goals to give back to others by leading a special exercise group for fellow moms here at the center. And one of our long-time, volunteer Client Advocates, Anita, was inspired to help all our moms live healthier lives by creating a healthy recipe to share with them each month.

This 8‑week course finished on Feb. 12th, but the growth will continue. Our Client Services Director, Jean Goins, will be connecting with each mom, referring them to the Life Center and encouraging them to start that center’s Hero Program. Through Life Center, these moms will have a chance to continue working on the goals they set and addressing areas in their lives such as health, finances, and their relationship with God.

Looking ahead, we plan to offer more groups like this, so we can continue helping our parents make choices that allow them not just to survive, but to thrive.
